It’s hard to explain to someone what the experience of being a female founder is like, until one goes through it themselves. Once you do, there is no turning back to a previous way of work, you’re forever shifted and your professional background is inherently more diverse, multi-faceted and impactful.
Any woman who takes a huge bet on herself knows this, because there was a moment where you doubted if you would before you bed, even days of doubt. The doubt before you launch, is different than the doubt when you launch or after you decide to leave. These are all different levels of doubt, almost like an opacity of a picture. For those of us fortunate enough to never had doubted ourselves, one, you’re lying. Two, doubt and fear is part of our human makeup. It makes the most sense in the world that you would face these perky little monsters when your ass is on the line.
Your ass is on the line, when you give a lot of fucks about what you’re building, you’ve put a lot of money into what you’re building, you’ve poured a lot of time into what you’re building, you’ve become known for what you’re building, people actually want you to continue to build it and you have employees who have believed so much init, that they are willing to work for you, building that thing that you once doubted you could even create.
The founder trap, is a phenomenon that happens when a founder cannot see the world clearly from their vantage point because they are consciously obsessed, and that’s a huge part of why I do the work I do.
